The result wasn't what was expected, but Flamengo's team left the field this Thursday with coach Rogério Lourenço praising his players. Despite being disappointed that the ball, once again, didn't go in, the coach reiterated that the group is motivated, has been working hard, and expressed hope for better days in the near future.
"Even in previous games we had opportunities. We had them against Vasco and Corinthians, against Atlético-PR... No bad thing lasts forever. We are working and we haven't forgotten how to play. Obviously there is anxiety and things have been happening that we know are not normal. Leandro Amaral's shot, Val Baiano's... We were looking to attack the whole time," he said.
According to him, the team has been losing some physical strength due to being in a restructuring phase. There have been many debuts in the last few rounds.
"Flamengo is paying the price for the departure of important players, but the board is working correctly. The problem is that, at this point in time, some players are not 100% physically fit. This ends up affecting our physical condition and also our game flow. There's no way around it; we have to field the best players and try to regain rhythm during training," he explained.
And speaking of debuts, the player making his debut tonight was the star of the game. Forward Diogo, even though he's still lacking match fitness and isn't in his ideal physical shape, showed quality and commitment in his first match wearing the Flamengo jersey.
"The players are working hard, Diogo's entry was good, we saw that it changed the movement up front. We see a team looking for the win. Flamengo has a defined, organized game system, but anxiety caused us to leave some spaces for counter-attacks. The ball isn't going in and there's no other solution than to keep working," said the coach, who recalled that the team created goal-scoring opportunities not only against Atlético Mineiro but also against other teams in recent rounds.
