Flamengo, Londrina and Estádio do Café. This Sunday (January 09.01th), they will meet again. After the teams faced each other three times in the 1970s, one of them even at the stadium's inauguration, and once in the 1990s, the time has come for them to meet again, 18 years after their last encounter. And the Flamengo fans want to settle the score with the Paraná team.
The Jacy Scaff Municipal Stadium was inaugurated on August 22, 1976, by a match between Flamengo and Londrina, which drew an audience of approximately 50 and generated a record revenue of Cr$ 857.720,00. A performance by the Marine Corps Band of Rio de Janeiro was the main preliminary attraction. On the field was Vanderlei Luxemburgo, now Flamengo's coach.
In the match, Londrina and Flamengo played a beautiful game, and it was Paraná of Londrina who scored the first goal in the new stadium from a penalty kick. Junior, the same one from the Brazilian National Team, scored the equalizer, and the game ended 1-1. Afonso Vitor de Oliveira was the referee, assisted by Célio Laudelino Silva and Tancler Pavani. Flamengo's lineup was: Cantareli, Júnior, Rondineli, Jaime, Vanderlei (Dequinha), Merica, Dendê, Luís Paulo, Júnior Brasília (Júlio Cesar), Luisinho, and Zico.
After this match, there were three more: a 1-0 defeat on February 1, 1978, and two more draws, both 1-1, on November 21, 1979, and May 7, 1993. On this January 9, 2011, almost 35 years after its inauguration, the Flamengo fans hope to make history with their first victory at the stadium.
