Despite a slight delay in kickoff due to expired medication in the field ambulance, Flamengo and Madureira faced off in the second round of the Campeonato Carioca. The match, played at Kleber Andrade Stadium at 19 p.m. in Cariacica, Espírito Santo, ended in a scoreless draw.

The red-and-black team had the ball, created good chances and even hit the opponent's post, but was unable to break the deadlock. With the result, Flamengo reaches 7 points in the competition and sleeps in first place in the Guanabara Cup.

The Most Beloved returns to the field next Saturday (21), to face Nova Iguaçu, at Maracanã, at 16 pm, for the third round of Cariocão.

The game

Flamengo started the match dominating the action. It was through Arrascaeta that Flamengo created its first chances, and in the 5th minute, the Uruguayan went to the baseline and crossed into the box; the ball hit the crossbar and stayed alive, but the referee signaled that the ball curved wide. 

The red-and-black team exchanged passes, looking for space in the opposing defense. Arrascaeta and David Luiz both took free kicks on goal, but were met by solid saves from the opposing goalkeeper.

After a short corner kick, Gabigol crossed into the box, Léo Pereira rose and headed the ball firmly downfield. The ball bounced, forcing a spectacular save from the opposing goalkeeper. Pedro then blocked the ball, and Everton Ribeiro stretched it to Gabigol, but the number 10 reached the ball along with the Madureira goalkeeper and was unable to finish. Flamengo came very close to opening the scoring in Espírito Santo.

Despite six minutes of added time in the first half, the score remained at zero.

Flamengo returned for the second half as they had finished the first: with the ball. Arrascaeta took a set piece free kick to David Luiz, who headed the ball into the box, but the opposing defense cleared it.

David Luiz fed Matheuzinho, who had just come on, and the full-back sent a low cross, which Gabigol came in with a sliding tackle and just missed. In the 28th minute, Arrascaeta found Gabigol in the box. The number 10 received the ball, turned, and shot against the post; on the rebound, Cebolinha's shot was blocked by the Madureira defender. 

Flamengo still had a great chance with Gabigol, but the star shot over the bar. Despite battling throughout the match, the score remained unchanged in Cariacica: 0-0.
