The Red-Black Nation had a happy Easter Sunday! In the second round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo defeated São Paulo 3-1 at Maracanã. Flamengo's goals were scored by Gabi, Isla, and Arrascaeta. With the result, Flamengo secured its first victory of the championship and is in fourth place with four points.
The game
Flamengo started the match looking to attack and created two chances in less than five minutes. The first came from Everton Ribeiro, who received a pass from Gabigol and shot hard from inside the box. Jandrei made a great save. Arrascaeta then crossed from the right, and Gabi got the first touch, but the goalkeeper made another good save.
In the 24th minute, Mengão took the lead at Maraca! In a fine move down the left, Arrascaeta passed to Lázaro, who provided a beautiful assist for Gabi to beat Jandrei: 1-0. With the advantage, the red-and-black team continued exchanging passes in the attacking half and creating scoring opportunities.
At 40', São Paulo equalized with a header from Calleri: 1-1. The Mais Querido was superior during the first half, but the teams went into the break with the draw.
At the start of the second half, Flamengo continued to press high to pressure São Paulo's attacking play. In the fifth minute, Lázaro delivered a great pass to Arrascaeta, who fired a first-time shot that Jandrei made a good save.
Around the 20th minute, Coach Paulo Sousa brought on Isla and Marinho for Rodinei and Lázaro, respectively. In the 21st minute, Arrascaeta took a skillful free kick that hit the post, and the rebound was headed wide by Filipe Luís.
Two minutes later, Mengão scored the second goal! Isla received a beautiful pass from João Gomes, dribbled down the right wing, and fired a superb shot into Jandrei's corner: 2-1. The Rubro-Negro then doubled the lead, much to the delight of the nation! Marinho received the ball on the left, advanced, and shot. Arrascaeta headed the ball in for the third: 3-1.
In the final stretch, the red-black team continued to attack and managed the advantage to leave the field with their first victory in the competition.
