In a special match for Toró, Flamengo faces América
Midfielder will complete 150 games with the club's shirt this Sunday, at 16 pm, at Engenhão
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inFlamengo and América will play this Sunday (March 28.03th) at 16 p.m. at Engenhão, the 312th match in the history of the confrontation. However, this game has a special flavor for one member of the red-and-black squad. Midfielder Toró, with the club since 2005, will complete 150 appearances with the club's shirt. During this time, he accumulated titles, such as the 2009 Brazilian Championship, the 2006 Brazilian Cup and the three-time state championship (2007/08/09).
But the recent victorious past doesn't dampen the midfielder's excitement when he steps onto the field this Sunday. Aware that he's making history wearing the sacred jersey, Toró acknowledges that he's about to fulfill a dream.
"Every boy who plays soccer dreams of playing for Flamengo. It's never been any different for me, and today I can reach this important milestone. It's a unique moment, a very special one indeed, and I hope I can repay that on the field with great enthusiasm," said Toró.
And against América, Toró should have plenty of running to do. At least that's what coach Andrade hopes.
"América is a good team, light from the middle forward, and we have to always be alert. They've been having a good campaign, are close to qualifying for the next round, and deserve our respect," said Andrade.
Still far from the mark that the Flamengo midfielder will reach this Sunday, striker Vagner Love is another who expects a lot of difficulty against América.
"Several América players have played for big teams. We're going to have difficulties, and we know that. They need to win to increase their chances of qualifying. We have to enter with attention and caution to come out with the victory," said Love, explaining that Flamengo's squad is aware that they cannot go into the game sleepy.
"They'll come at us wanting to win. However, if we're cautious, attentive, and score when we have the chance, we'll come out on top. We can't go in relaxed, thinking we'll win at any moment. We have to respect our opponent to avoid surprises," Love concluded.
Retrospect
Flamengo and América haven't faced each other since 2008. The last match was held in February of that year, also at Engenhão, and the red-and-black team won 4-0. In total, Flamengo and América have played 311 matches. Flamengo has won 157 matches, drawn 71, and lost 83.
The biggest defeat for Flamengo in the match took place in 1942. Flamengo beat América 8-5 at Gávea. Pirirlo (five), Perácio, Zizinho and Vevé scored Flamengo's goals.
This season, Rubro-Negro has played 17 matches, winning 13, drawing two, and losing two, with 44 goals scored and 22 conceded.
