Emerson Buck promises to reevaluate the group's physical condition

New coach explains: "You can't just think about the next game, but about the next 10 games"

Flamengo's new fitness coach, Emerson Buck, arrived in Gávea last Monday (August 30.08) and hasn't had much time to get to know the Flamengo squad yet. In the coming days, however, Buck will speak further with physiology professionals and other fitness coaches to reevaluate the group and outline his plan for the rest of the season.

According to him, the time is right for calm. Buck believes there's no point in making hasty decisions that could end up hurting Flamengo in a long run of important Brasileirão matches.

"It's a time when I need to first evaluate, calmly, and talk to the physiology team and the other members of the physical department who were already here. We need to take it slow, especially because it's a difficult time in the championship, with a marathon of games. I'll analyze everything carefully before anything else," he said.

Citing the example of Renato, who at 32 arrived at Flamengo from Arab football without completing a pre-season, Emerson believes that planning has to be done in the long term and is considering, in the near future, the possibility of resting some players so that they can recondition themselves physically.

"Maybe it's better to rest one or two players sometimes, because when you work on physical preparation, you need to think not about tomorrow's game, but rather the next ten. Because you can complicate a situation and end up causing an injury that takes the player off the field for a month, for example," he concluded.
