Flamengo unveiled striker Emerson as the club's newest addition to the Campeonato Carioca, Copa do Brasil, Copa Sudamericana, and Campeonato Brasileiro early Monday evening in the Marilene Dabus Press Room. The 30-year-old said today is the happiest day of his life.

"After three or four attempts, I finally managed to fulfill my dream of playing for Flamengo. I'm truly delighted. I can even say that today is the happiest day of my life. I'm a Flamengo fan, and I'm fulfilling a childhood dream by wearing this jersey, which was once worn by Zico, Júnior, Andrade, and Adílio."

The player said that the opportunity to provide a better life for his family weighed heavily on his decision to leave Brazil early.

"I left Brazil when I was 17. I had the opportunity and I didn't let it pass. I'm from Nova Iguaçu, from a simple family, and I had the chance to give my family a better life. I believe I made the right choice, because today, thank God, I can give my children a good education and have a stable life. Now I'm returning to Flamengo to fulfill my dream. I had great offers, but the financial aspect didn't prevail. There's no money in the world that can buy such happiness as playing for Flamengo. Passion and love make you do things that are difficult to explain. I've always wanted to play here. I don't know how long money will be more important than that. I'm doing what my heart tells me."

Emerson talked a little about his career, which was built in Japan and Qatar.

"I left São Paulo and went to Japan, where I played for five years. I was the top scorer and best player in the Japanese Championship. In 2005, I went to play for Al-Sadd in Qatar. I was also the top scorer there and was then sold to Rennais in France. In 2008, I returned to Qatar, and now I'm here, fulfilling my childhood dream."
