Two generations that made history in Flamengo's youth academy recently met in the red-and-black team formed for the Brazilian Under-23 Championship, which begins next Sunday (19.09). Players born in 1987-1988 and 1989-1990 will play alongside each other in the duel against Fluminense, which will be broadcast live on Flamengo's official website.
One of the representatives of the generation that won three Rio de Janeiro championships and two OPG Cup titles, midfielder Vander, who hasn't worn a Flamengo jersey since 2008, has returned to the Gávea club to prove his talent, which has always been surrounded by expectations in the youth academy. The skilled left-winger is excited to be donning the Sacred Mantle once again.
"The teamwork has been there since the beginning, and we have a winning streak. I hope we can repeat this, doing our job in the best way possible, to win another title," he said.
Pecka, who is a little younger and was part of the squad that won third place in the U-19 World Cup, and has even played for the Brazilian youth teams, was at CFZ and believes this is a golden opportunity to prove himself again at Flamengo.
"I'm excited. It's great to be back. I spent time at CFZ, learned a lot, gained experience, and now for us to compete in this championship with more visibility and again for Flamengo is important. We always enter competitions to win, and we're going to go after this title by playing good football. We've been together for four or five years, even more. These generations, from 87 to 90, won many titles in the youth academy, and it's great to be back with these teammates," he said.
Supporter Camacho, a two-time youth champion and now part of Fla's professional team, is also excited.
"It's good to have this opportunity. We all know each other and it makes things a little easier when it comes to getting along. I hope everything works out and we can win another title for Flamengo," he added.
