"As long as it is possible, we must dream"
Deivid believes Flamengo should have the South American as its objective, but does not rule out fighting for a place in the G4
By From the official website team - inFlamengo's Brazilian title last year serves as proof that a championship played on a points-based system can be unpredictable. Flamengo's surge in the second half of the season was considered unlikely, but it happened. Therefore, striker Deivid believes the Gávea team can dream of better things in this 2010 edition of the competition.
In 14th place with 34 points, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo's team has short-term goals of moving further away from the bottom of the table and competing for a spot in the next Copa Sudamericana. But why not aim a little higher?
"Who knows, we might still be able to dream of a place in the Libertadores. As long as it's possible, we have to go for it," said the number 99, who sees the matches against Inter, Corinthians and Vasco as the possible start of this run.
"It's not just these three games that are important. We have nine finals in this Brazilian Championship, and we need to dream big; think big. I believe we can win all nine games. That's the intention: to always climb the table. These three games serve to start us on that path. The initial objective is the South American, but I always want to get a taste of the Libertadores whenever possible," he explained.
The striker also highlighted the red-black team's motivation to seek these results, even more so after the arrival of the new coach, Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
"Every coach has his own philosophy. What's worth highlighting about Vanderlei's arrival is the change in the team's style of play and motivation. This was good for us, as we've earned four points in two games," he concluded.
