Fernando will not be on the field next Sunday (July 18.07th) in the match between Flamengo and Atlético-GO due to a suspension imposed by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD). However, the player will still have a fundamental role for the Rio de Janeiro club: that of a spy. In 2008 and 2009, the midfielder played for Goiás, Atlético's biggest rival, and therefore has some good tips to share with his teammates about this weekend's opponent.
"Atletico-GO is under the command of coach Roberto Fernandes, who took over last month from Geninho. I think two strong points of the Goiás team are Thiago Feltri, who will try to force plays down the left, and the speed of Rodrigo Tiuí, who played with me at Fluminense. He's a player who knows how to finish, he shoots with both feet and the defense has to keep an eye on him," he explained.
Fernando also believes that the Goiás team will do everything possible to try to bounce back in the Brasileirão, specifically against Flamengo. According to him, Atlético-GO has the potential to have a good run in the competition and is only in last place because it prioritized the Copa do Brasil, where it reached the semifinals, before the Brazilian Championship was suspended for the World Cup.
"I think Atlético-GO is going through a tough time because they were prioritizing the Copa do Brasil before the World Cup was suspended, and now they'll be trying to make up for lost time. The Goiás team is fighting to get out of last place in the Brasileirão and lost to Atlético-MG in the last round. They'll probably try to bounce back with this home game. I've already heard that tickets for the match against Flamengo have been on sale since the beginning of the week," noted the player, who can't wait to play for Flamengo again.
"After this match against Atlético-GO, I'll be available to coach Rogério to play and help Flamengo. The club has signed players for the midfield, and the competition for spots will be very strong. I trained a lot during the World Cup break, and the coach even praised me when he tested me with the role of creating attacking plays. I hope to have the opportunity to help Flamengo," he added.
