Flamengo has emerged as one of Brazil's most solid teams since the second half of 2016. With only three official losses between October of that year and April 2017, the "Mais Querido" is recognized as one of the country's top teams.

The process that began in the final stretch of the 2016 Brasileirão has solidified with the new year, and the numbers confirm this reality. According to Footstats, the Mais Querido leads the statistics in several categories in the championships it has competed in so far in 2017.

In the CONMEBOL Libertadores Bridgestone, Flamengo is the team with the most shots on target—37. Guerrero leads the competition individually in this regard, with 16 shots on target. Flamengo is also the team with the most crosses through the fifth round of the continental tournament, with 35. In this regard, the squad is quite divided. Éverton leads with six shots on target. Next come Pará and Trauco (5), Diego and Mancuello (4), and Arão and Gabriel (3). 

The team also has the most passes that result in shots—55. Willian Arão was responsible for nine of these. Pará and Guerrero each had eight. Diego completed seven; Trauco, six; and Gabriel, four. Flamengo is also the second team with the most successful passes in the competition, with 88 successful passes.

The numbers reiterate Flamengo's tendency toward intense tactical application, passing, and practiced plays. Flamengo has completed 1690 passes in the competition, placing Flamengo sixth among the 32 teams competing in the CONMEBOL Libertadores Bridgestone.

If we look at the numbers from the Campeonato Carioca, this is even more blatant. O Mais Querido is the team that completed the most passes in the competition, with 6.066 - almost 800 more than the 5.248 of second-place Fluminense. Réver stands out as the most successful passer, with 517 passes. The Rubro-Negro also leads in shots on target (108 - Guerrero is the top shot maker, with 19); goals (37 - nine successful ones make Guerrer the top scorer); assists for shots (192 - Mancuello leads, with 24 passes); successful crosses (111 - Mancuello stands out, with 23); successful turnarounds (82 - Rafael Vaz was the best in this category, with 13 successful); successful tackles (217 - with Arão responsible for 24 of these) and corners for goal (130).

These numbers confirm Flamengo's dominance in the matches played this year and serve to project a clear path of development for the team.
