Debutant of the day, Diego Alves says Flamengo deserved the victory

For the goalkeeper, the team played better than Corinthians at Itaquerão

Goalkeeper Diego Alves, making his debut on the day, said Flamengo deserved the win based on their performance in the second half against Corinthians. The number 1 praised his teammates' performance and knew the match wouldn't be easy.

"I think we were better in the first half. Corinthians managed to get there in their own way, on the counterattack. They're a well-trained team that closes down very well at the back, but I think we deserved the win today. We have more possession, we have more chances, it's difficult to play here at Corinthians' field. Flamengo played a great game and we definitely wanted to win, but I'm happy with the players' performance, which was spectacular," said the goalkeeper as he left the field.

In his debut, Diego was rarely used. Despite scoring in the first half, Corinthians didn't shoot much, and only in the final minutes of the match did the goalkeeper have to work again, saving Jô's shot. After the game, Diego spoke about his debut.

"I always like to take advantage of opportunities. This was the opportunity. I've been in football for a long time, I have a lot of experience, and I know that in a game of this size, you can do well or badly. But I believe that this return to Brazil was something I thought about and dreamed about. Today I wanted the victory, but I'm very happy to be able to return," he concluded.

Flamengo now returns to action next Wednesday against Santos at Pacaembu Stadium. With today's draw, the team is in fifth place in the table with 29 points.
