Felipe Melo scored in both matches against Católica

Dunga's starting player, revealed by Flamengo, was the only positive point in Flamengo's two previous games against Chile

When Paraguayan Carlos Amarilla blows the whistle for Flamengo's debut in the Copa Santander Libertadores, Flamengo will face Universidad Católica and a brief but uncomfortable negative record. Both times the clubs have faced each other, the Chileans have prevailed.

Both games were in the 2002 Libertadores. In the first match, at Maracanã, Flamengo opened the scoring, but the Chileans turned it around to 3-1. In the game in Santiago, another setback: Católica won another, 2-1.

The standout player for the red-and-blacks in both matches was a starter for Dunga's national team, midfielder Felipe Melo, now at Juventus Turin. Other players from the Brazilian squad called up for the friendly against Ireland were also in those 2002 matches: goalkeeper Julio Cesar and defender Juan.

The only remaining member of that team is Petkovic. Adriano was part of that squad, but he didn't play in either match.
