It's not just any reinforcement who arrives at Flamengo during the preseason, debuts alongside his teammates in the first match of the year, and manages to establish himself on the team. But this is the case with midfielder Fernando. He arrived at Gávea wanting to break free from his brother Carlos Alberto's image and continue the good work he did at Goiás. And, in his first four games in the red-and-black jersey, he's succeeding.

In Wednesday's match against Americano, the defensive midfielder had another solid performance in midfield and also scored his second goal in four games this season, turning in a corner kick from Petkovic. Happy with his good form and the goal he scored, Fernando celebrated his career as a top scorer at Gávea.

"I've been getting opportunities and, thank God, the ball is going in," he said.

The midfielder emphasized the importance of the Flamengo victory this Wednesday, already looking ahead to next Sunday's derby against Fluminense, the club that revealed him. The number 17 believes that Flamengo vs. Flu will be the best game of the Campeonato Carioca so far.

"The important thing today was the victory. It was tough in the second half, but the team did well and got the result they needed. Fla vs. Flu will be one of the best games. They are two great teams and we are excited," he added.

Even Willians, whom Fernando is replacing, praised the player. The number 8, who is expected to return to the starting lineup next Sunday, highlighted the healthy competition for positions in the red-and-black midfield.

"It's good to have options. Fernando came in well, did his job, and now I hope to return and continue my work. A good squad is like that: there are many options for all positions, and that's great for Flamengo," he said.
