Fernando hoping for a spot
The player could make his debut in the red and black shirt on Thursday, against Coritiba.
By Flamengo Archive - inSigned by Flamengo in August, midfielder Fernando could get his first chance for the red-and-black team on Thursday against Coritiba at the Maracanã stadium. With Juan suspended and Luizinho and Everton dealing with muscle pain, the former Mixto-MT player was fielded on the left wing by Caio Júnior in this morning's training session. According to the athlete, the position is nothing new in his career.
"I played as a full-back in Palmeiras' youth academy, and now I have this opportunity. It's not the position I've played in recent years, but I need to seize this opportunity. I'll fight to do well and help the team win such an important match. I want to play, no matter what position."
Left-handed, Fernando has never been selected, but says he has been to Maracanã several times to adapt to the pressure of Flamengo.
"It's the first game I've been involved in. But I always go to Maracanã to watch the games to feel the pressure of the fans. On the field, football is all the same. I need to have my head on straight and my feet on the ground to do well."
For the player, the opportunity will be a great test for his career.
"It's a test for my career, but I'm not anxious. If I get the chance to play, I'll overcome the nerves of playing for the first time at Maracanã. Flamengo has the team to win the championship, and that's what we're aiming for. The group gives me confidence, and that's important for me to stay calm for the match. I have to show my worth and prove that I can be used, perhaps also in midfield, my original position."
