Fernando: "I want to show that I am capable of helping"
Midfielder is pleased with the opportunity given by Luxemburgo to start playing against Santos.

Midfielder Fernando's contract with Flamengo only runs until the end of this season. However, depending on the player's will and effort, the contract will be extended for a few more seasons. He knows that to achieve this, he needs to perform well, and he will have a great opportunity to do so next weekend.
The number 17 shirt was chosen as a starter by coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo in the practice match last Thursday (December 02.12nd) and hopes to succeed in this first opportunity to start playing under the new coach's command.
"I know I'm going to have to sweat blood in this game. But I'm very motivated and very happy to have this first chance to start playing under Luxemburgo's command. He has praised me a lot since he arrived, said he trusts my work and it will be a great opportunity to show that I can help," said the player, stressing that his desire is to stay at Flamengo in 2011.
"My desire is to stay here, for sure. I hope to play a good game and help Flamengo achieve victory and a spot in the Copa Sudamericana, which would be very important for us. I, personally, really want to show my football, prove that I have the quality and ability to help the team next season," he said.
Aware of the importance of a positive result against Santos to maintain chances of qualifying for the next edition of the Copa Sudamericana, Fernando emphasizes the need to enter the field with great determination at Vila Belmiro.
"The Copa Sudamericana is a very important competition, which now offers a spot in the Copa Libertadores, so we know it's another chance to fight for a title, for a spot in the Libertadores, and we really want to achieve this positive result," he added.
