Fierro shows solidarity with Chilean miners
A Flamengo supporter said he was moved by the case that made headlines around the world in recent days.

The world has come together in a wave of solidarity with the Chilean people in recent days. More than two months ago, 33 miners were trapped underground in an excavation in the Atacama Desert. Since August 5, the workers have been waiting for the rescue, which began late Tuesday night (October 13.10), surrounded by emotion and support from Chileans and the entire planet.

One of the current Flamengo squad members born in the country, supporter Fierro, expressed his emotion regarding the case in an interview with Flamengo's official website. The number 16 recalled the earthquake that also shook Chile in February, but said that the Chilean people have always believed in unity to overcome their problems, and this time will be no different.

"I don't know anyone who is in this situation, but it is a moving case, for sure. But Chileans are a united, strong people, who have been going through a difficult time since February with the earthquake, and I am happy with the way everyone has been acting. It was very moving, I am following the case and I hope that everything ends well," said the Chilean, who also commented on the fact that former player Franklin Lobos, former Cobresal player, was one of those buried.

"It's sad, because he's a fellow professional. I was surprised, he caught my attention, because he's a player who had an important career in Chilean football and who is probably in this situation because of financial problems," he added.

The miners - 32 Chileans and one Bolivian - are at a depth of about 700 meters and are being lifted by the Fénix 2, a modern capsule specially prepared for the task, through a tunnel dug by a drill over 33 days and completed last Saturday, two months ahead of schedule. To date, more than 20 workers have been rescued.
