Physiologist explains first days of work at Fla

Paulo Figueiredo talks about the importance of mapping out the squad for the rest of the offseason

Flamengo's squad began its second-half training camp in Gávea with a series of evaluations. Paulo Figueiredo, the physiologist responsible for the first few days of training, told Flamengo's official website that this entire process is crucial for mapping the condition of each player in the squad.

"We're conducting the necessary assessments to submit a report to Toninho Oliveira, who is responsible for physical preparation. The players were off for 10 days, so we need to conduct this type of analysis and mapping of the group," explained the physiologist, who revealed some details of the activities.

"On Tuesday, we measured body fat percentage. On Wednesday, we did a lactate test (a substance produced by the human body that, in excess, can cause discomfort after exercise), and in the coming days, we'll perform an isokinetic analysis of the group (a test that analyzes muscle strength). This is important because it gives us a prognosis of how the players are doing and what kind of training load each will have in the offseason," he revealed.

The club's new fitness coach, Toninho Oliveira, was pleased with his first impression of the group.

"I don't have the exact data yet, but I'm pleased with what I've seen and the initial conversations we've had. The group is doing well, and I'd even like to record that here, because I worked with the professionals who were here before, and their work was very well done," he added.
