Flamengo's youth team drew 1-1 with Náutico, this Wednesday night (12/12) in Porto Alegre, and secured a place in the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. In the next phase, the red-black club faces Cruzeiro, Friday (14/12), at 19 pm.

The game was quite lively, with chances for both teams. Early in the first half, Flamengo threatened the opposing goal, with two great chances missed by Bruno Mezenga. Vander and Erick Flores were active in midfield, creating difficulties for the northeastern team.

In the 27th minute, Vander burst into the box and fired a cross-shot, but the ball hit defender Fernando's arm. The referee ignored the penalty.

The match continued to be lively, but the first half ended in a goalless draw.

In the second half, Flamengo nearly opened the scoring after a beautiful play by Vander. The midfielder threatened with a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Náutico responded with dangerous attacks, led by forwards Reynaldo and John.

In the 24th minute, a penalty was awarded to Flamengo. Náutico defender Fernando blocked a cross with his hand. Paulo Sergio took the penalty with skill, scoring one goal for Flamengo.

After the goal, Náutico launched an attack, as only victory was important to the northeastern team. Flamengo responded with dangerous counterattacks, but the red-and-black attack wasn't having a good night.

In the 31st minute, Flamengo defender Wellinton handled the ball in the box. The referee awarded a penalty, and Eduardo Bruno converted for Náutico, tying the match.

The game remained open, and Flamengo coach Adílio brought on defender Fabrício for striker Paulo Sérgio. The Gávea club held on to the result and celebrated their qualification for the next round.

After the game, midfielder Erick Flores, one of Flamengo's standout players in the Championship, spoke about his expectations for the match against Cruzeiro, in a game valid for the quarter-finals of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship.

"We have to fight and work hard to get a victory over Cruzeiro. It will be a very close game, and we're looking for another positive result."
