Fla and Botafogo repeat recent record and draw at Engenhão

In another edition of the classic that has been marked by balance in recent years, another draw: 1-1

Once again, it was a gutsy affair. Flamengo, once again, fell behind. Despite playing better during the first half, they ended up conceding a goal from a Lucio Flavio free kick, but they were brave and didn't give up on leaving Engenhão with at least a point. And the red-and-blacks' dedication was rewarded. With a goal that could have been scored by no other player than Leonardo Moura, who has been at Gávea since 2005 and is accustomed to the unpredictable and tight derbies against Botafogo, which have decided, for example, the last four Campeonato Carioca championships.

With this result, Botafogo remains in sixth place with 42 points. Flamengo is 15th with 30. In the next round, while the Gávea club will face Atlético-GO on Thursday in Volta Redonda, the General Severiano team will face Guarani on Wednesday in Campinas.

Dominance and unfair outcome
The match began with surprises in the Flamengo lineup: coach Silas opted to field a three-man defense due to the absence of left-back Juan. In his place came Ronaldo Angelim, who played alongside David and Jean in defense. Maldonado, Renato, and Kleberson Willians remained in the middle, with full-back Leonardo Moura positioned slightly further forward. It worked. Flamengo was superior during the opening 45 minutes.

The first big chance came in the 18th minute, when Leonardo Moura broke through and crossed for Kleberson to head the ball, posing some danger to Jefferson. In the 27th minute, another header, this time from Jean, from a cross by Renato, was met with another good save by Jefferson. In the 32nd minute, Diogo pedaled to the baseline and sent in a low cross. The ball went past Deivid and Willians. On the next play, Kleberson took a long-range shot, and Jefferson punched it away. But in the 35th minute, Botafogo's first shot on goal delivered an unexpected punishment for the red-and-black team. A free kick by Lucio Flavio gave the team the lead and went into the locker room.

A draw based on willpower
The "unfair" result didn't dampen the Flamengo's motivation. But their willpower wasn't enough, and the team couldn't equalize. Silas then decided to make a change: he brought on Petkovic and Diego Maurício. The team once again took control of the match. Botafogo capitalized on their advantage, exploiting counterattacks, and exchanging passes in Flamengo's half. But, as in the first half, the team that seemed better ended up being surprised.

Just when it seemed Flamengo wouldn't be able to equalize, they did. As in recent rounds, they did so with grit. In the 29th minute, Alessandro conceded a penalty on Ronaldo Angelim and was sent off. Petkovic stepped up to take the shot, Jefferson saved it, but Leonardo Moura scored on the rebound. A minute later, Renato Abreu equalized and was sent off after a foul on Túlio Souza. In the 44th minute, Loco Abreu missed a good chance, which Lomba saved. However, the game's fate was already sealed: 1-1.
