Saturday (July 10.07) will be a busy day at Gávea. Flamengo will play their final preseason training match during the World Cup at 15 p.m. against Olaria. The Flamengo team will have the opportunity to test the lineup that will likely take the field against Botafogo on Wednesday at 21 p.m. in the eighth round of the Brazilian Championship. After a month-long hiatus due to the World Cup, the competition will return this week, and Rogério Lourenço's team hopes to return in style.
Therefore, the players consider this type of match highly valuable. After all, it's an opportunity not only to gain match fitness after a long period without official matches, but also to test formations and game situations for the rest of the Brasileirão.
"It's always important to be doing this type of activity. We need game rhythm, we need a little more synergy, and I believe this is very valuable," said Vinícius Pacheco.
Rogério is expected to be without midfielder Antônio, who is suffering from thigh pain, as well as Michael and Maldonado, who are still recovering from injuries. Therefore, the Rubro-Negro team is expected to field Marcelo Lomba, Leo Moura, David, Ronaldo Angelim, and Juan; Willians, Correa, Kleberson, and Petkovic; Vinícius Pacheco and Diego Maurício.
"We have a much more experienced team than the one that was training during the offseason. I believe that Kleberson's return and Correa's arrival can help the team a lot. We still have Maldonado recovering, Michael, and the players who won't be able to play until August, so I believe that, little by little, the group will find its feet," added defender Ronaldo Angelim.
It is worth remembering that Flamengo has played two training matches so far in the preseason, and drew in both: 1-1 with Desportivo Brasil and 2-2 with Ituano.
