Flamengo drew 1-1 with Fluminense this Wednesday at Maracanã, eliminating them from the Copa Sudamericana. Roni opened the scoring with a penalty in the first half, and Denis Marques equalized in the second. Flamengo returns to action next Saturday against Santo André at Maracanã in the Brazilian Championship.

The game started lively, with both teams creating good scoring chances. The first good opportunity fell to Fluminense, with Luiz Alberto heading dangerously. Four minutes in, Emerson burst into the box and crossed. Rafael got ahead of Denis Marques and saved Fluminense.

In the 25th minute, Emerson felt a thigh problem and was replaced by Zé Roberto. Denis Marques had another good chance for the red-and-blacks, but his shot went over Rafael's goal. Late in the first half, Ronaldo Angelim and Kieza collided outside the box, but Chilean referee Carlos Chandia made a mistake and awarded a penalty. Roni took the kick and opened the scoring: 1-0 Fluminense.

Flamengo came out pressing in the second half. In the eighth minute, Petkovic shot into the right corner, but Rafael saved. Soon after, Denis Marques challenged Luiz Alberto and Rafael and passed to Petkovic at the edge of the box. The Serbian shot weakly and missed a good opportunity. In the 15th minute, Denis Marques dribbled past two defenders and shot from outside the box. The ball deflected off Zé Roberto and went in: 1-1 at the Maracanã.

In the 28th minute, Andrade replaced Petkovic with Guilherme Camacho. Flamengo continued to pressure Fluminense, but were met by the Tricolor's excellent marking. Fierro and David were both sent off late on, hampering Flamengo's attempt at a comeback.
