Clarification from the Competitions Department on the classification of the Brazilian Championship Series A

CBF News

The CBF Competitions Department clarifies that in the Brazilian Championship Series A table, up to the 25th round, Flamengo is in 16th place and Atlético/PR in 17th, taking into account the 5th tiebreaker criterion of the competition Regulations.

According to the Competitions Department, the 4th criterion (head-to-head) is compromised, since there were no two matches - home and away - between Flamengo and Atlético/PR that characterize the "180-minute game" provided for in the text of the first paragraph of article 13 of the Championship Regulations. Therefore, the 4th criterion should be skipped and the next criterion sought.

Therefore, the 5th criterion (lowest number of red cards) was applied, in which Flamengo received four cards and Atlético/PR five.

See the excerpt from the Competition Regulations regarding tiebreaker criteria:

CHAPTER IV - Dispute System

Art. 13 - In the event of a tie in points earned between two or more clubs at the end of the competition, the tiebreaker, for classification purposes, will be carried out in accordance with the criteria below:

1st) highest number of victories;

2nd) highest goal difference;

3rd) highest number of goals scored;

4th) direct confrontation (when the draw occurs between only two clubs);

5°) lowest number of red cards received;

6°) lowest number of yellow cards received;

7th) draw.

§ 1° - For the purposes of the fourth criterion (direct confrontation between two clubs)

the result of the first and second leg games is considered, that is, the result of

"180-minute game".
