Flamengo achieved a strong result in the 36th Brazilian Adult Futsal Cup on Saturday night. With a stellar performance from center Diego Carvalho, who scored three times, the team from Gávea defeated Jardim Limoeiro of Espírito Santo 11-1 at Ginásio Presidente Ciro II. The match was part of the fourth round of Group 2 of the competition's qualifiers, and this was the second victory in three games for the red-and-black team, which had a bye in the first round and concludes its participation in the tournament this Sunday night against São Paulo.
However, since Minas Tênis, which defeated Flamengo in the debut of coach Cid Escarlate's team 3-2 in an incredible comeback, drew with São Paulo, Mengão is mathematically eliminated from the competition. Only the top-place team in each group qualifies for the decisive stage of the Taça Brasil, which will be played in Cascavel. Since Minas Tênis reached 10 points and Flamengo, second in the group, can only reach nine, the Belo Horizonte team secured its spot.
Despite the early elimination, the Taça Brasil has proven the strength of the Flamengo team. This Saturday night was no different. In the first half, Flamengo took a while to open the scoring. However, after missing a few chances, Diego Carvalho got things started in the ninth minute. Still in the first half, the Flamengo team scored twice more, through Henrique and an own goal from Esmayle. In the second half, Diego pulled one back for the Espírito Santo team, but Flamengo's Diego scored his team's fourth. From then on, coach Cid Escarlate's team took off and cruised to victory with goals scored by Arthur (twice), Diego (once more), Panázio (once more), Pablo (once more), Xandó (once more), and Henrique (once more).
