In coach Joel Santana's farewell, Flamengo lost 3-0 to América-MEX this Wednesday at the Maracanã, and is eliminated from the Copa Libertadores. Cabañas (2) and Esqueda scored the goals for the Mexican team.

Cheered on by over 50 fans, Flamengo started the game attacking, despite a 4-2 victory in the first leg. Kléberson, Juan, and Marcinho created the best chances for the red-and-blacks. The pressure paid off, and Souza missed a good opportunity in the six-yard box.

Controlling the game, Flamengo suffered the first blow in the 20th minute. Cabañas tried a shot from outside the box, and Bruno accepted: 1-0. The goal didn't slow down the team from Gávea, and Souza and Juan had good chances to score.

In the 35th minute, Juan made a good run down the left and crossed to Souza. The striker headed powerfully, but Ochoa made a great save. Three minutes later, after a good exchange of passes from América-MEX, Esqueda chipped the ball over Bruno: 2-0.

In the second half, Flamengo returned with Obina replacing Kléberson. Just like in the first half, Flamengo pushed for a goal in the opening minutes. In the fifth minute, Obina received the ball in the penalty area and fired a cross, but the ball just went wide.

In the 10th minute, Joel brought on Diego Tardelli to replace Souza. With the fans cheering, Tardelli nearly scored Flamengo's first goal in the 15th minute, with a shot from the edge of the box. Soon after, Marcinho squandered a great chance.

In the 20th minute, Juan caught a ball from outside the box and scared Ochoa. The red-and-black team dominated the match, but consistently lacked finishing. In the 32nd minute, Cabañas took a free kick from distance; the ball deflected off the wall and into Bruno's corner: 3-0.

Joel still tried his last card, putting Renato Augusto in Jailton's place, but after Juan was sent off in the 39th minute, Flamengo's chances ended.
