Flamengo bid farewell to the Brazilian Championship this Sunday afternoon (December 2nd) at the Aflitos Stadium in Recife. The team failed to maintain the level of performance of recent matches, losing 1-0 to Náutico. Despite the loss, the club remained in third place with 61 points and qualified for the 2008 Copa Libertadores.
On the field, the game started without much excitement. Flamengo kept possession of the ball, but couldn't threaten Náutico's goal. The first big chance fell to the northeastern team, with a good shot from outside the box by Julio César. The ball actually hit the crossbar.
Náutico risked shots from outside the area, and Elicarlos tried again, but Bruno saved.
The first big chance for the red-and-blacks fell to Argentine Maxi. He received the ball on the right wing, beautifully dribbled past Náutico's defender, and crossed to Toró. The midfielder's shot was poor, sending it over the goal.
At half-time, Joel Santana made the first change to the team, taking off Maxi and bringing on Roger.
Early in the second half, Roger delivered a beautiful pass to Obina. The striker fired a powerful shot, but the ball skimmed the post.
Flamengo grew into the game and nearly opened the scoring with defender Fábio Luciano. The Flamengo captain missed an incredible chance in the six-yard box.
On a counterattack, Náutico scored the first goal. Ferreira sent the ball to right-back Sidny, who sent a cross-shot into the corner of goalkeeper Bruno's net.
Coach Joel Santana made another change, bringing on Paulo Sérgio for Obina. The young striker missed a great chance in the 38th minute. Ibson took a shot from outside the box, the goalkeeper palmed it away and the ball fell to the striker, but he fired over the bar to equalize for the red-black team.\ MATCH SHEET\ NÁUTICO 1 X 0 FLAMENGO\ Stadium: Aflitos, Recife (PE)\ Date/time: 12/02/2007 - 4:00 p.m. (Brasília time)\ Referee: Paulo César de Oliveira – FIFA (SP)\ Assistant referees: Elias Silva Almeida (PB) and Maria Eliza Correia Barbosa (SP)\ Revenue/attendance: R$259.209,00/17.988\ Yellow cards: Ibson, Toró, Ronaldo Angelim and Léo Moura (FLA); Ferreira (NAU)\ Red cards:\ GOALS: Sidny, 32'/2nd half (1-0)\ NAUTICO: Fabiano, Sidny, Vágner Silva, Everaldo and Júlio César; Daniel Paulista, Elicarlos, Acosta and Geraldo (Élton - 40'/2nd half); Felipe (Ferreira - 22'/2nd half) and Marcelinho (Radamés - 10'/2nd half) - Coach: Roberto Fernandes.\ FLAMENGO: Bruno, Léo Moura, Fábio Luciano, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Toró, Cristian, Léo Medeiros (Egídio - 36'/2nd half) and Ibson; Maxi (Roger - half-time) and Obina (Paulo Sérgio - 27'/2nd half) - Coach: Joel Santana.\
