Current state futsal champion, Rubro-Negro beats the Teresópolis team 2-0 and remains in the fight for the second title
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inDespite missing some of its key players, Flamengo's futsal team stood firm and achieved a crucial result on its way to its second state adult championship. On Wednesday night, the team faced Comary away from home in a match that was scheduled for last Monday but was postponed due to heavy rain that caused a landslide on the Rio-Teresópolis highway. The team won 2-0.
\The result brought the Gávea team to 19 points, opening up a five-point lead over fifth-place Vassouras with two rounds remaining in the qualifying phase. The victory puts Flamengo within striking distance of a semifinal spot. The top four teams qualify, and to lose a spot, Flamengo would have to lose to Cabo Frio and Petrópolis, and Vassouras would have to win its next two matches.
\However, coach Cid Escarlate's team is still battling for third place with América, which has 17 points and faces Vassouras in the final round. Petrópolis leads with 32, followed by Cabo Frio, which has 31. In the semifinals, the matchups are: first place faces fourth, and second takes on third. In the 2008 final, the Rubro-Negro defeated Cabo Frio in the heart of the Lagos Region and became the state futsal champion for the second time in history.
