Flamengo opens its quest for the fourth Copa do Brasil title against Cruzeiro, at Maracanã
The return match will be at Mineirão Stadium on September 27th. There will be no qualifying goals in the final.

Today, Flamengo, there's a final, a decision. The ball will roll onto the Maracanã pitch at 21:45 p.m. for the first leg of the 2017 Copa do Brasil final between Flamengo and Cruzeiro. Unlike the rest of the competition, this time there will be no qualifying goal. The title will be decided by goal difference, regardless of how many are scored at home or away.

Flamengo is riding high on a five-match unbeaten streak (two wins and three draws) and a victory over traditional rival Botafogo. In the semifinals at Maracanã, the "Mais Querido" also reached the 100-win mark in the competition, becoming the most successful team in the Copa do Brasil history. Now, the goal is a fourth title, adding another trophy to the collection that already includes those from 1990, 2006, and 2013.

In the last training session before the match, coach Reinaldo Rueda spoke about his expectations for the decision and how Flamengo should behave.
"These are very intense games, lasting 180 minutes. I think all Flamengo players are accustomed to and prepared to face these games with responsibility and intensity. These are extremely important matches for them to make a difference, knowing that we'll face a very mature, tough, well-structured opponent who knows how to play good football. We've been discussing these situations, and I believe they're ready."

Flamengo and Cruzeiro are one of the country's most popular derbies. Together, the teams have won seven Copa do Brasil titles (three for Flamengo and four for Cruzeiro) and nine Brazilian championships (six for Flamengo and three for Cruzeiro). The teams have faced each other eight times in the competition, with each team winning two and drawing four.
. In addition to holding the record for victories in the history of the competition, Flamengo also has the highest number of goals scored: 312.
In the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo has played at Maracanã 58 times. They have won 38, drawn 17, and lost three, scoring 111 goals and conceding 42.
The last time they faced each other in the Copa do Brasil, Flamengo eliminated Cruzeiro in 2013. The first leg, in Minas Gerais, ended in a 1-1 draw, with Everton Ribeiro scoring goals for the team, and Carlos Eduardo equalizing for Cruzeiro. In the return leg, at Maracanã, Elias scored the goal that sealed Cruzeiro's passage to the quarterfinals of the competition, which they would ultimately reach after defeating Atlético Paranaense in the final.
