Flamengo finalizes the signing of Vander from Bahia.
The 20-year-old midfielder arrives in Rio de Janeiro this Tuesday and will undergo medical exams at the club this Wednesday.

Midfielder Vander, just 20 years old and a product of Bahia's youth system, is Flamengo's newest signing for the 2011 season. The young player arrives in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday night (December 28.12th) on a one-year loan, endorsed by club officials and coaches with whom he worked at Bahia. On Wednesday (December 29.12th), he will undergo all physical examinations and will join the rest of the squad on January 3rd at Ninho do Urubu.
Born and raised in the capital of Bahia, in the São Marcos neighborhood, the promising player is not afraid of the pressure and hopes to learn a lot from coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, whom he considers one of the best in Brazil and the world.
"I'm calm about the transfer. I've worked very hard, since the youth categories, to reach a club like Flamengo. It's a great pleasure to be able to play with this shirt and be coached by Luxemburgo. I'm happy for the opportunity and I hope to learn a lot from him. His resume is great, he's even coached the Brazilian national team, and it will be great for me," said the midfielder, leaving a message for the fans.
"I'm not promising anything. I can only guarantee that the fans will see a lot of commitment from me. I hope to do what I've always done in my career at Bahia. I really want to help Flamengo win titles this season," he concluded.
According to Bahia's football manager, Paulo Angione, who closely followed Vander's development, Flamengo fans can expect a bold player, eager to learn and succeed in his career.
"Everyone in Bahia has great faith in this player. He showed a lot of quality, both in youth games and when he was called up by the professional team's coach, at the time Renato Gaúcho. This transfer to Flamengo will solidify that. We know that for him to leave Bahia and arrive in Rio de Janeiro he will need an adaptation period. But Luxemburgo knows very well how to handle that. Furthermore, Vander is a modern young player, very daring and focused on his career. I have no doubt that he will demonstrate great football, befitting the greatness of Flamengo," said Angione.
Vander is the third reinforcement presented by Flamengo for the 2011 season. Previously, the club had signed goalkeeper Felipe and Argentine midfielder Bottinelli. The squad's return to training is scheduled for the 3rd, at the club's training center in Vargem Grande. However, probably on the same day, players and coaching staff will travel to Londrina (PR), where pre-season training will take place until the 17th.
