There's news on the block, Nation! Andreas Pereira is Flamengo's newest signing for the remainder of the season. The 25-year-old Belgian midfielder, of Brazilian nationality, joins the Gávea club on a one-year loan with an option to buy. The athlete, who plays for Manchester United in England, arrives to strengthen the Flamengo squad for the Brazilian Championship, Copa do Brasil, and Libertadores.

The son of Brazilian parents, Andreas was born in Duffel, Belgium, and began his career at the age of nine with PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. In mid-2011, he transferred to Manchester United, where he made his senior debut in 2014. For the English club, he played in 103 matches and scored eight goals. The midfielder also played for Granada (37 matches and five goals) and Valencia (29 matches and one goal) in Spain, and Lazio (33 matches and one goal) in Italy.

After a few loan spells, Andreas Pereira returned to United with more experience and playing in a new midfield position: second midfielder. It's worth remembering that at the beginning of his career, the Belgian played as an attacking midfielder on the wings. With this new role, he began to earn more minutes on the pitch.

The new Mengão player also represented the Belgian national team at youth level, but never hid his desire to represent the Brazilian national team, which he did in May 2014 at a tournament in China. The following year, he finished runner-up in the U-20 World Cup, scoring in the final against Serbia. In August 2018, Andreas became the fifth player not born in the country to be called up to the senior Brazilian national team.
