During a press conference held early this afternoon in Gávea, president Márcio Braga announced that Flamengo has a new sports equipment supplier. Olympikus has been chosen to supply the red-and-black team for the next five and a half years, with the club earning approximately R$31 million per year between sponsorship and equipment. At the end of the contract, the club will have received R$173 million, making it the largest club contract in Latin America. "Never in the history of this club has there been a contract of this size. This is a historic day for Flamengo," stated president Márcio Braga. Flamengo will receive a fixed share of R$20,6 million per season, in addition to royalties from ten stores throughout Brazil and a 2.400 m² museum, which will be built in Gávea. Starting tomorrow's derby against Fluminense, Flamengo will no longer wear the uniform branded by its previous supplier (Nike). For marketing reasons, the Olympikus-branded uniform will be worn within 60 days. "We adopted this strategy to give our new partner time to stock the stores. It doesn't make sense to use a new uniform without our fans being able to buy it in stores. The three question marks serve to pique fans' curiosity," says Flamengo's vice president of marketing, Ricardo Henrichsen.
