Flamengo partners with Biocinética to optimize training
Understand how biomechanical tests and individual assessments develop athletes and prevent injuries in the red-black squad

When he arrived at Flamengo in December 2015, coach Muricy Ramalho brought with him his experience in Europe and warned that Flamengo's football would adopt practices from the biggest clubs in Europe. In line with this thinking, Dr. Marcio Tannure, the club's Chief Medical Officer, was the pivot of another step in this development process, leading the Mais Querido's partnership with Biokinetics, a company specialized in carrying out high-tech exams to reduce the risk of injuries, optimize training and rehabilitation of high-performance athletes.
"The importance of the partnership with Biocinética was to be able to make it feasible and carry out all the biomechanical analyses of our athletes' movements, so we could obtain the necessary corrections and reduce the risk of injury," analyzed Dr. Tannure.
Coming from a successful job in the office of the Head of the Medical Department of Flamengo, Gustavo Leporace, technical director of Biokinetics, told what the Red-Black Nation can expect for 2016.
"The big news is to stop the idea that everyone does the same training. Now, Flamengo will have highly personalized care for each player, and with that, training will improve significantly. Fans can expect players to be much better prepared physically, and in less time," he stated, before explaining how the work works in practice.
"We take into account each athlete's age, position on the field, and previous injury history. This allows us to develop a unique protocol to identify, individually, which muscle needs the most attention, and which aspect is strongest or most lacking in each player. After functional biomechanical tests, strength, flexibility, and balance tests, we pass the evaluations on to Flamengo's coaching staff and medical department, and the professionals identify what can be worked on for each athlete to optimize training and results," he explained.
In addition to scientific evidence that personalized care delivers results, Gustavo points to concrete examples and praises the pioneering nature of the partnership with Mais Querido. "A partnership like this, working directly with the club, working closely together since preseason, is unique to Flamengo in Brazil. The only one that comes close to this is Corinthians, who invested in this last year and won the Brazilian championship. What we want now at Flamengo is for the team to get closer to titles," he stated.
With this partnership, Flamengo reaffirms its desire to follow the successful models of major international sports leagues and become a benchmark. And, according to Leporace, Biokinetics is proud to be part of this movement.
"Flamengo has been demonstrating its desire to be ahead of its time and make up for lost time. And Biokinetics is part of this because it's a cutting-edge analysis that's rarely available in the national or even international market. So, Flamengo in Brazil wants to be a pioneer in this 3D biokinetic assessment and movement correction... And we also want to be a pioneer in publishing these studies so we can continually improve," said Tannure.
A desire for innovation and high standards that also accompanies the Biokinetics.
"We're linking our name to Brazil's biggest club. The partnership has everything it needs to succeed, as we're carrying out scientifically proven initiatives using cutting-edge technology, and we have people on our side who want to take this seriously. We feel privileged to demonstrate that this work is successful alongside competent professionals," he praised.

The athlete undergoes testing using 3D human movement imaging equipment combined with various sophisticated technologies to analyze joint and muscle function. The tests are conducted in a spacious environment, where the athlete performs movements guided by an evaluator.
The tests can be performed by both professional and amateur athletes, as well as anyone seeking to improve their quality of life and prevent injuries during physical activity. To perform the test, the individual simply needs to be able to perform functional movements independently, such as walking on a 10-meter track or a few minutes on a treadmill, going up and down two degrees, or sitting down and standing up from a chair. The athlete should wear comfortable, close-fitting clothing without excessive slack. For men, such as those working for the red-and-black soccer team, swim trunks or Lycra shorts are recommended.
