Flamengo lost the derby against Fluminense 2-0 this Sunday (October 07th) at Maracanã. The red-and-black team started off inactive at the start of each half, and conceded two goals in the opening minutes, with Somália, one minute into the first half, and Thiago Neves, three minutes into the second half. With the result, the team dropped to 10th place in the Brazilian Championship.

With the overwhelming majority in the stands, Flamengo's team couldn't match the momentum coming from the stands. Just a minute into the game, Alex Dias crossed into the Flamengo box, and Somália took advantage of the defense's inattention to make it 1-0 with a soft shot that went into the corner of goalkeeper Bruno's net.

In the 11th minute, Fabinho handled the ball inside the box, but referee Gutemberg de Paula Fonseca blew a free kick outside the box. Juan's shot hit the wall.

Flamengo couldn't threaten Fluminense's goal, and in the 14th minute, Bruno made a great save from Alex Dias' shot. The red-and-black team tried to respond with a great play from Léo Moura, but Fernando Henrique prevented the goal. Soon after, Ibson shot from outside the box, but the ball refused to go in, scraping the post.

Flamengo tried to dominate the game, but the large number of misplaced passes made it difficult to create scoring chances, and the first half ended 1-0 to Fluminense.

In the second half, Flamengo looked like they would soon equalize, but on a counterattack, Arouca passed to Somália, who crossed the ball for Thiago Neves to double the lead. It was a cold shower for Flamengo, who, like in the first half, wasted a few free kicks.

Coach Joel Santana tried to breathe new life into the team by bringing on Kayke and Léo Medeiros to replace Toró and Jailton, but the game's outlook didn't change much, with Flamengo once again making a lot of mistakes in passing, creating dangerous counter-attacks for Fluminense.

At the end of the game, Joel tried his last card by putting Argentine Hugo Colace in Rômulo's place, but the result was already decided.

In the next round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo visits Paraná, Saturday (13/10), in Curitiba.
