Flamengo begins preparation with 23 players

Adriano, Pet and Léo Moura were the main absences

By - in

Flamengo began team training this Thursday morning in Porto Feliz, São Paulo, at the Traffic Training Center. The team swapped its usual Granja Comary training ground in Teresópolis for the quiet town in the interior of São Paulo. Twenty-three players attended the team presentation and began training on the field. Flamengo is preparing for its debut in the Campeonato Carioca on January 23th against Duque de Caxias at Maracanã Stadium. However, the club's priority in the first half of the year is winning the Libertadores.

The most noticeable absences were Adriano, who reports for duty this afternoon; Petkovic, who is in Serbia and arrives in Porto Feliz on Saturday; Léo Moura (who will have nose surgery this Thursday); and Chilean Maldonado, who is recovering from an injury and has been in Rio de Janeiro undergoing physical therapy. Others who were absent were striker Denis Marques, who is dealing with personal issues, and defender Ronaldo Angelim, who has not yet reached an agreement with the club to renew his contract.
