Flamengo celebrates 120 years with victory at Maracanã

The team defeats Orlando City in a celebratory match. The next round in the Brazilian Championship is against Santos.

Flamengo celebrated its 120th anniversary the way every Flamengo fan loves: with a victory at the Maracanã. The team defeated Orlando City 1-0, with Luiz Antônio scoring a free kick. Now, the team turns its attention to the Brazilian Championship: "Mais Querido" (The Most Beloved) travels to São Paulo this week, where they face Santos at Vila Belmiro. The match will be next Thursday (November 19.11th) at 22 p.m.

Before the game, teams and fans observed a minute of silence to honor the victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The game
The match started at a leisurely pace, with Flamengo looking for the best way to get to Orlando City's goal. In the seventh minute, Kayke received a cross from Pará and headed dangerously. The ball went just wide of Thierry Graça's goal. Eight minutes later, Éverton received the ball in the box but was dispossessed before he could finish. In the 18th minute, it was the North American team's turn to create a threat. Rivas shot from outside the box, and Paulo Victor calmly saved.

Orlando City threatened again in the 28th minute when the referee awarded a penalty after Alan Patrick challenged Adrian Winter. Striker Bryan Róchez took the shot, but Paulo Victor made a fine save to maintain the draw.
 In the 39th minute, Alan Patrick received the ball at the edge of the box, cleared it, and struck hard, but the ball went too high. Two minutes later, Éverton passed it to Kayke, who shot dangerously wide again. The first half ended goalless.

Second time
Osvaldo de Oliveira changed the entire team, and Flamengo began to attack more often. In the sixth minute, Jajá, who had come in at left-back, received the ball in the middle and shot dangerously from outside the box. Ayrton had the opportunity to open the scoring with a free kick from the edge of the box in the 19th minute. The right-back took a dangerous shot, but the ball went wide. Watch:
