We want the world again! On Thursday afternoon (5/12), the draw for the groups of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup took place in Miami, USA. In an event promoted by the highest football authority, Flamengo learned its opponents for the first stage of the intercontinental competition: Chelsea (ENG), León (MEX) and Espérance (TUN) complete Group D alongside the Mais Querido.

The Red-Blacks were represented on the occasion by president Rodolfo Landim and idol Diego Ribas. The competition will take place in the United States between June 15th and July 13th, 2025, and will feature 32 clubs from all the world's confederations, qualified according to the latest editions of the continental competitions.

The match against Chelsea will be the second in the history of the Mais Querido. Two meetings against León of Mexico took place in the group stage of the 2014 CONMEBOL Libertadores and one in 1962. On that occasion, the Mais Querido traveled to Mexico with a stellar team featuring Dida, Joubert, Jordan, Carlinhos, and top scorer Henrique Frade. Star Gerson "Canhotinha de Ouro" scored the only goal, and the Rubro-Negro emerged triumphant. Espérance was their opponent in a meeting in 1993. Tunisia is one of ten African countries where Flamengo has played in history, and 31 years ago, the then-Brazilian champions faced the home team. Under the command of Evaristo de Macedo, Mengão won 1-0, with a goal by Marcelinho Carioca. The Rubro-Negro starting eleven included names like Junior Baiano, Casagrande, and Nélio. This confrontation was one of the last of the eternal idol Junior with the Sacred Mantle.
