The Flamengo delegation arrived in Chile early Tuesday afternoon. Under a deceptive sun (the minimum temperature forecast for the day of the game is eight degrees), players and coaching staff left Santiago airport harassed by the local press and showing great confidence in seeking a good result against Universidad Católica, this Wednesday (14.04), at 21:50 pm (Brasília time), at the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium.
One of Flamengo's standout performers in the competition, right-back Léo Moura explained the group's prevailing sentiment: confidence. Even in the midst of a marathon of "decisions," the players are desperate to win the Libertadores and the State Championship.
"Everyone's expectations here are high. We know we need to win to gain more peace of mind in the Libertadores, and we're confident. We faced a somewhat long and tiring journey, but the planning was well done to get here and achieve a good result," said Léo Moura.
For Andrade, who confirmed that he has already studied this Wednesday's opponent in depth, Flamengo needs to enter confidently and pay attention to two players in particular: Damián Diaz and Mirosevic.
"Individually, Católica is better than La "U," which exploits its opponents' mistakes better. They have two great players, Damián and Mirosevic, who need to be monitored closely. But we know we need the result, and I'm sure the team will excel once again," said Andrade, explaining the reason for such confidence.
"We won the Brasileirão last year, showing a lot of grit, especially in away games. I see that we've got that spirit back. The team is committed to the goal, which is to qualify for the next round. We'll be that cool team again, the one that kills its games," explained the coach.
Andrade hasn't confirmed anyone in the team's lineup, but he seems to have just one doubt: who will play in midfield.
"I have four players for one position: Petkovic, Mezenga, Pacheco, and Fierro. The latter would be a good option to play on the right with Léo Moura. It's important to strengthen that side, as they play there a lot. Furthermore, their winger is often out wide, and it would be good to play behind him. But we're still deciding who will fill that spot," Andrade concluded.
