A different stage, but the same old rivalry. Flamengo and Fluminense traveled to Brasília to face off in another edition of Brazil's most captivating derby. And, as with most clashes, Flamengo emerged victorious.

With goals from Willian Arão and Paolo Guerrero, Mengão won 2-1. The victory leaves Flamengo in second place in Group B of the Campeonato Carioca, with 10 points. The Mais Querido's next match is on Wednesday (24), against Cabofriense, in Macaé.

Flamengo started the match showing what they wanted: to dominate. From the start, proposing and dictating the pace of the game, the Red-Blacks attacked heavily down the right flank, with Cirino and Rodinei forming a beautiful one-two punch. Flamengo's first goal didn't take long to arrive. In the 13th minute, Mancuello took a corner kick. Cavaliei couldn't hold it, the ball deflected off Fred and fell to Willian Arão, who controlled, shielded the ball, and fired a shot into the net. With a one-goal lead, Flamengo continued to dominate. On the few occasions Fluminense tried to attack, they found no space thanks to the strong performances of César Martins, Wallace, and Cuéllar. Marcelo Cirino continued to be a good option up front and nearly doubled the lead in the 34th minute with a beautiful shot from the edge of the box. Guerrero also tried for a second before halftime, almost heading Cavaliei over the bar, but the Tricolor goalkeeper managed to save with his fingertips.

Guerrero's goal came shortly after. The number 9 needed only two minutes of play in the second half to score. Rodinei delivered a perfect cross, Paolo got ahead of the defender and headed the ball past the defender, leaving no chance for a save. The calm scoreline in favor of the Red-Blacks didn't end the game. In the sixth minute, Cuéllar and Marcos Júnior argued and were eventually sent off by the referee. Muricy replaced Mancuello, who was applauded, with Márcio Araújo. With fewer players on the field and a heavy rain, the pace of the match slowed. Fluminense began to exploit the spaces, but the Red-Blacks' defense showed its solidity. The Tricolor finally managed to pull one back in the 37th minute of the second half, with a free kick by Gustavo Scarpa. The final minutes were thrilling, with Fluminense seeking an equalizer at any cost. Flamengo managed to defend well even after Wallace was sent off in the 41st minute. The strategy worked and the Mais Querido reached the final whistle with the victory.
