Flamengo took to the field on Wednesday night (27) and drew 0-0 with Athletico-PR at Maracanã, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil quarterfinals. The return leg takes place on August 17 at Arena da Baixada.

The game
The match began with a fierce battle for possession in midfield. Gradually, Flamengo began to ground the ball and exchange passes in the attacking half. In the 10th minute, the red-and-black team worked the ball well in attack and threatened Bento's goal. Filipe Luís crossed into the box, Pedro got ahead of the defenders and deflected the ball with his heel, but the goalkeeper managed to save.

In the 19th minute, Gabi hit a cross-shot, and Bento palmed it away. Pedro narrowly missed the rebound. In the 30th minute, Pedro made a beautiful individual play and set up João Gomes on the left, who crossed into the box. Gabi fired a first-time shot over the goal.

The Mais Querido continued to completely dominate the game. In the 36th minute, Arrascaeta cleared the marker at the edge of the box and shot, but the goalkeeper saved it. Despite the opportunities created, mainly by Flamengo, the first half ended goalless.

After the break, Flamengo continued to pressure Athletico in their own half. In the fourth minute, Arrascaeta took a corner kick and Pedro headed the ball against the post. The next play, Léo Pereira crossed into the box and Arrascaeta headed it wide. Another great chance for Flamengo.

In the 21st minute, after a good play by Rodinei, the ball fell to Pedro in the box. The forward laid it off to Gabi, who fired a shot. Khellven saved it on the line. Thiago Maia then went to the byline and rolled the ball back. Gabigol took a first-time shot that hit the crossbar.

In the 35th minute, Vidal cleared the play and took a shot from outside the box. The ball grazed the post. In stoppage time, David Luiz received a red card and was sent off. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, despite Flamengo's superiority.
