Flamengo and Botafogo draw in the Brazilian Championship: 3-3

Rubro-Negro opens up an advantage, but rival seeks a draw

A classic is always a hard-fought game. And this Saturday's (16) was no different. Flamengo and Botafogo faced off at the Luso-Brasileiro Stadium and ended in a draw. Éverton, Jorge and Guerrero scored the goals for the Mais Querido.

Flamengo's next match is against América-MG, on the 25th, in Cariacica.

The game

The first half saw a tight match between the two teams. Botafogo hit the post from a corner kick, but Éverton opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Mancuello crossed, Guerrero controlled, and the number 22 sent a right-footed shot into the net. Botafogo equalized eight minutes later with a long shot from Diogo Barbosa. 

Flamengo returned from the break dominating the match and controlling the play, creating more and more chances. In the eighth minute, Jorge capitalized on a defensive blunder, stole the ball, exchanged passes with Éverton, and fired a shot from inside the box to score Flamengo's second. In the 23rd minute, Guerrero received a beautiful pass in the middle of the opposing defense and fired a low shot to make it three. Trailing on the scoreboard, Botafogo pushed forward to get the result. In the 32nd minute, Neilton headed home from the six-yard box. The following minute, Salgueiro fired a powerful shot into the corner to seal the match.
