Flamengo is defeated in Itaquera and says goodbye to the Copa do Brasil
The team falls behind, draws, but concedes a goal in the second half and loses to Corinthians.
By Flamengo Communication - inFlamengo was defeated by Corinthians on Wednesday night at Itaquerão Stadium, bowing out of the 2018 Copa do Brasil in the semifinals. In the first leg, the teams drew 0-0 at Maracanã Stadium. With this result, Flamengo returns to the Brazilian Championship, where it sits fourth in the standings.
Corinthians opened the scoring early in the first half, through Danilo Avelar in the 13th minute. Still in the first forty-five minutes, Pará made a good run down the right and crossed into the box. The ball hit Henrique and deceived Cássio, tying the score.
With few scoring chances for either side, the second half dragged on without much excitement. Corinthians' winning goal came through Pedrinho in the 23rd minute. The striker fired a long-range shot into the corner, beating Diego Alves. Flamengo still had good opportunities through Vitinho and Lucas Paquetá, but it wasn't their night.
The team is now preparing for the game against Bahia, next Saturday (29), at 21 pm, at Fonte Nova.
