In the Rio derby of the fourth round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo ended up losing to Botafogo, 2-0, on Sunday morning (28), at Maracanã. With the setback, Rubro-Negro suffered its first defeat in the national competition. Now, the team focuses on the debut of the Copa do Brasil against Amazonas, on Wednesday.
The game
In the scorching heat of the Maracanã, the derby began with Flamengo taking the initiative. The first good chance came in the third minute. Arrascaeta lifted the ball into the box for De La Cruz to head, and Luiz Araújo fired a first-time shot into the corner. The ball flew just wide of the post. The first few minutes were dominated by Flamengo.
In the 10th minute, Bruno Henrique deflected the ball into the goal from inside the six-yard box. However, after a VAR check, the referee ruled the striker offside. By pressing the black and whites' ball out, Flamengo often regained possession in the attacking half and managed to create chances down the wings.
In the 40th minute, after an exchange of passes in attack, the ball fell to Luiz Araújo, who attempted a well-placed shot, but the ball went wide. In stoppage time, Bruno Henrique made a good run down the left, got past his marker, and sent a low cross into the middle of the box. The goalkeeper made the save. With the red-and-blacks dominating, but without goals, the first half ended with the score tied.
For the second half, the red-and-black team returned with Allan in place of Erick Pulgar. In the seventh minute, Botafogo opened the scoring with Luiz Henrique, who took a first-time shot from the edge of the box and found the right corner of Rossi's net: 1-0.
After conceding the goal, Flamengo tried to push forward to equalize. In the 19th minute, Arrascaeta crossed for Fabrício Bruno to head home dangerously. Flamengo held possession in attack and were circling Botafogo's box. In the 38th minute, Wesley crossed to the near post and Lorran rose to head home dangerously.
In stoppage time, Botafogo scored the second goal through Savarino, giving the game its final score. With the result, Flamengo suffered its first defeat in the Brasileirão.
