In the 34th round of the Brasileirão, Flamengo lost to Fluminense 2-1 on Wednesday night (19), at Maracanã. Jorginho, from a penalty, scored the only Flamengo goal in the classic. Even with the defeat, Mais Querido remains in the lead of the championship. Now, the team from Gávea faces RB Bragantino next Saturday (22), at home.

The game

The match began with both teams cautiously sizing each other up, but Fluminense had the first good chance with Canobbio, whose cross into the box grazed Rossi's post. Gradually, Flamengo gained possession and exchanged passes. The first good attack from the red-and-black team came in the 10th minute. Léo Pereira passed to Carrascal, who feinted past his marker and shot, but Fábio made the save.

At 24 minutes, Fluminense opened the scoring with Lucho Acosta, who hit a beautiful shot into the corner to make it 1-0. The Tricolor team extended their lead at 32 minutes. João Victor passed back to Rossi, who tried to control the ball but got tangled up. Serna took advantage and finished into the net: 2-0. In the final stretch, Flamengo tried to push forward to reduce the deficit before halftime, but the score remained two goals in favor of the Tricolores.

Returning for the second half, coach Filipe Luís made two substitutions. Danilo and Juninho came on for João Victor and Luiz Araújo, respectively. With the changes, the Flamengo team began to apply more pressure and valued possession of the ball in the attacking half. Cebolinha also entered the field, replacing Samuel Lino.

Despite having more presence in attack, Flamengo found it difficult to penetrate the Tricolor defense, which was well organized. At 25', Cebolinha received the ball on the left, cut inside and shot towards the corner. The ball went very close to the post. In the sequence, Léo Pereira crossed into the area and Juninho headed firmly towards the corner, forcing a good save from Fábio.

Following the play, Saúl shot towards the goal and the ball hit Renê's arm. After reviewing the play on VAR, the referee awarded a penalty. Jorginho, who came on during the second half, took the penalty and placed it in the corner, giving Fábio no chance: 2-1.

In the final minutes, Flamengo went all out in search of an equalizer. There was even a controversial play regarding a possible penalty on Cebolinha, but VAR allowed play to continue. As a result, Flamengo was defeated, but remains at the top of the Brasileirão standings.
