After a break for the FIFA Date, Flamengo returned to the field this Thursday (17) and ended up being defeated by Fluminense by 2 to 0, in the 30th round of the Brasileirão. Now, Rubro-Negro focuses its attention on the duel against Corinthians, on Sunday.
The game
The derby began with Flamengo holding the ball longer and trying to attack by exchanging passes. Fluminense, on the other hand, adopted a more withdrawn stance and waited to counterattack. In the 10th minute, the red-and-black team created a threat for the first time. Bruno Henrique got the ball and shot, but Fábio made the save.
Two minutes later, Alcaraz exchanged passes with Bruno Henrique at the edge of the box and fired a well-placed shot. The ball hit the post, hit Fábio's foot, and went out for a corner. As the game progressed, the scenario remained the same, with Flamengo controlling possession and trying to create attacking chances.
In the 29th minute, Allan delivered a beautiful through ball to Wesley, who reached the baseline and delivered a low cross. The ball went past Gabi and reached Bruno Henrique, who ended up shooting weakly, but Fábio saved it. The Red-Blacks were putting pressure on the Tricolor and creating opportunities.
In the final minutes, Fluminense was awarded a penalty. The referee consulted VAR and ruled that Léo Pereira had fouled Marquinhos inside the box. Ganso took the penalty, and Rossi jumped to save, saving Flamengo. The first half ended with the score unchanged, but with much greater play and chances created by the red-and-black side.
At the start of the second half, Fluminense opened the scoring with Lima, who took advantage of a cross into the box to score the goal: 1-0. The tricolor team extended their lead in the 14th minute with Arias and increased the advantage: 2-0.
To try to make the team more attacking, Filipe Luís replaced Léo Ortiz and Bruno Henrique with Michael and Plata. Soon after, Arrascaeta and Alex Sandro replaced Matheus Gonçalves and Ayrton Lucas.
With the substitutions, the red-and-black team regained control of possession and exchanged passes near the tricolor box, but struggled to create penetrative plays. The red-and-black team tried until the end to score at least one goal, but it wasn't their day to find the net. The game at Maracanã ended in defeat.
