Flamengo travelled to Salvador on Thursday night (14) and ended up being defeated by Vitória 2-0, at Barradão, in the second leg of the 5th Round of the Copa do Brasil. Despite having more possession and attacking volume for much of the match, the Rubro-Negro struggled to break through the Bahia defense and saw the home team be efficient in the opportunities created. With goals from Erick, still in the first half, and Luan Cândido, in the final stage, the team led by Leonardo Jardim said goodbye prematurely to the national competition.

The game
The match started evenly, with both teams looking to control possession. In the opening minutes, Vitória opened the scoring with a fantastic goal from Erick. After recovering the ball at the edge of the area, the striker fired a shot into the top corner past Rossi: 1-0.
Trailing behind, Flamengo began to occupy more of the attacking field and increased the pressure in search of an equalizer. In the 36th minute, the Rubro-Negro created two good opportunities in quick succession. First, Luiz Araújo tried his luck from outside the area, forcing the goalkeeper to make a save. On the rebound, Samuel Lino took a placed shot towards the corner, and the ball went just wide of the post. Despite the pressure in the final minutes, Flamengo went into halftime trailing on the scoreboard.
At the start of the second half, Flamengo returned creating good chances. Emerson Royal crossed into the area, and Carrascal headed the ball, forcing a save from Lucas Arcanjo. Moments later, Luiz Araújo made a good run down the right and crossed to the far post for Samuel Lino, who headed wide.
Flamengo continued to press and create opportunities. In the 11th minute, Luiz Araújo shot from outside the area, the ball deflected off the defense and went up. Bruno Henrique won the header and headed it point-blank, forcing a great save from the goalkeeper, preventing the equalizing goal.
In Vitória's first major attack of the second half, the home team extended their lead with a goal from Luan Cândido. After Rossi partially cleared the ball with a punch, it fell to the defender, who volleyed it in. The shot went between the goalkeeper's arms and into the net: 2-0.
Needing a goal to take the decision to penalties, Flamengo maintained the pressure until the final minutes. Emerson Royal crossed into the area, and Léo Pereira headed over the goal. Despite their attempts, Flamengo couldn't reduce the deficit, and Vitória secured their qualification for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil.
