Flamengo failed to break down Fortaleza's defensive defense and ended up drawing 0-0 this Wednesday night in Volta Redonda. The return match between the teams takes place next week at Castelão. The winner will advance to the next stage of the Copa do Brasil. A 0-0 draw will take the match to penalties, and a 1-1 draw will secure Flamengo's spot.

Flamengo started the match dominating the midfield and enjoying more possession, but they were unable to convert their superiority into scoring chances. Flamengo's first good chance came in the 16th minute. Willians made a good individual play, burst into the box, and shot. Douglas saved Fortaleza. In the 29th minute, Kleberson took a free kick from distance and nearly opened the scoring.

Giving their opponent no chance, the Gávea team grew even more at the end of the first half. Leonardo Moura and Obina had good chances, and Ibson hit the post with a beautiful shot in the 41st minute. The first half ended in a scoreless draw.

Flamengo came out pressing in the second half. In the first minute, Emerson crossed from the right, goalkeeper Douglas got tangled up, and the ball nearly went in. Four minutes later, Obina attempted a bicycle kick, but the number 18's shot went wide. In the sixth minute, Emerson played a one-two with Ibson, entered the penalty area, and shot wide.

In the 18th minute, Obina shot with style, but Douglas made a stunning save to save Fortaleza. Soon after, coach Cuca took off number 18 and brought on Josiel. In the 24th minute, Marcelo Nicácio fired a powerful shot, but Bruno made a good save.

Cuca made another change to the lineup, replacing Erick Flores with Zé Roberto and Ibson with Everton. The red-and-black team didn't improve and couldn't escape a draw with Fortaleza.
