In the final round of the 2020 Brasileirão, Flamengo was defeated by São Paulo 2-1 on Thursday night (25), at Morumbi Stadium. Bruno Henrique scored Mengão's goal. Despite the setback, the "Mais Querido" made history by winning its eighth national title and its second consecutive championship. It's worth noting that Internacional drew against Corinthians at Beira Rio, sealing Flamengo's title.

After a campaign of many ups and downs, the Red-Blacks gained momentum in the final stretch of the championship, achieving five wins in their last six games. The strength and unity of the Red-Blacks were decisive factors in winning another national title, further enriching the storied history of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo.

In a difficult year, marked by so many losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which ravaged the entire world, Mengão managed to provide a moment of happiness to its immense Rubro-negra Nation, which today paints the entire Brazil red and black, with great pride, race, love and passion.

The game
The first half began with a fiercely contested midfield, with Flamengo dominating possession. The red-and-black team exchanged passes in São Paulo's midfield and struggled to penetrate the opposing defense. In the 49th minute, São Paulo opened the scoring with Luciano's free kick: 1-0.

Mengão came back strong in the second half, and just five minutes in, tied the match. After a corner kick from Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique headed the ball into the back of the net: 1-1. Then, in the 13th minute, São Paulo scored the second through Pablo: 2-1. For the rest of the match, Flamengo fought for the result until the end, but left with a defeat at Morumbi.

Despite the setback, Mais Querido was crowned eight-time Brazilian champion, due to the draw in the game between Internacional and Corinthians.

And now?
Mengão returns to the field next Tuesday (02) to make its debut in the 2021 Carioca Championship. The red-black team will face Nova Iguaçu, at Maracanã.
