The game
The derby began with a fierce battle for possession. The red-and-black team managed to attack more, valuing passing. Needing to overturn the first leg's result, Fluminense launched into attack, but the red-and-black defense seemed well-positioned and managed to cut down the balls, especially in the air.
After the timeout, the Tricolor team pushed up their lines even further to pressure Flamengo's attacking play, as they struggled to break out of their own half. In the 26th minute, Fluminense opened the scoring with Marcelo. The full-back cleared the defense and slotted the ball into the right corner of Santos' goal, making it 1-0.
Five minutes later, Fluminense scored the second through Germán Cano. Ganso passed to the striker, who slotted it into Santos' corner: 2-0. The first half ended with Flamengo trailing. This scoreline takes the match to penalties.
After the break, the Red-Blacks made two changes: Gabi and Léo Pereira were replaced by Everton Ribeiro and Matheus França. In the first minute, Cebolinha took a corner kick into the box, Thiago Maia headed it, and goalkeeper Fábio fell to the right corner to make the save.
In the 8th minute, after reviewing the VAR, the referee awarded a penalty. Fabrício Bruno handled the ball in the box. Cano stepped up to take the shot, Santos saved it, but the striker slotted home the rebound: 3-0.
Flamengo created a threat in the 14th minute. Matheus França was released at speed down the right, chipped Felipe Melo, and shot powerfully, but Fábio saved. Five minutes later, Fluminense scored the fourth through Alexsander, making it 4-0.
