In the last round of the Guanabara Cup, Flamengo lost the classic to Fluminense 2-1 on Wednesday night (8), at Maracanã. Rubro-Negro took the lead with Everton Cebolinha, but ended up being turned around in the second half.
The game
The derby started hotly at the Maracanã! As soon as the ball rolled, Gabi received a yellow card for kicking the ball at André, after the game had already stopped. Flamengo tried to maintain possession on the attack, while Fluminense relied on fast runs. The start of the game was quite tense, with intense competition for the ball.
In the 18th minute, Mengão opened the scoring with a beautiful goal! Cebolinha charged past Samuel Xavier, managed to dribble past him, burst into the box, and made a sharp cutback to Nino before slotting the ball into the left corner of goalkeeper Fábio's net: 1-0. The Red-Black Nation went wild at the Maracanã!
At a disadvantage, the Tricolor team had to go on the attack. In the 25th minute, Cano unleashed a powerful shot, forcing goalkeeper Matheus Cunha to make a great save. The "Mais Querido" responded quickly and nearly scored a second. Gerson raced down the left, got to the byline, and crossed into the middle of the box. Arrascaeta caught it first time, and Fábio palmed it away for a corner.
In the 33rd minute, Gabigol found the back of the net, but after a VAR review, the referee ruled that Matheus França had fouled André. Having prevailed throughout the first half, Rubro-Negro went into the break with the lead.
At the start of the second half, Fluminense leveled the score with Cano's equalizer: 1-1. Flamengo had returned from the break with the same momentum as the first half, but conceded in the opening minutes. In the 20th minute, coach Vitor Pereira made his first changes to the team. Gabi, Arrascaeta, and Igor Jesus were replaced by Mateusão, Ayrton Lucas, and Vidal, respectively.
After the substitutions, the red-and-black team regained control of the midfield and began working the ball in the attacking midfield. Fluminense also posed a threat when they advanced, leaving the game open, with chances for both sides.
In the final stretch, the tricolor team began to control the ball more in attack and, at 39', scored the second with Gabriel Pirani, who took advantage of the rebound in the area to finish: 1-2. Rubro-Negro sought the equalizer until the end, but left the field with the defeat.
Now, Flamengo awaits its opponent in the Cariocão semifinals.
