Playing away from home, Flamengo drew 1-1 with Atlético-MG on Tuesday night (25), at Arena MRV, for the 36th round of the Brasileirão. The red-black team started behind on the scoreboard, and in the added time of the second half, Bruno Henrique scored a beautiful header, making it all square. Despite not getting the win, Mengão reached 75 points and increased their lead in the competition, as Palmeiras lost to Grêmio.

To become champion in the next round, Mais Querido only needs to beat Ceará, at Maracanã, which will win its ninth Brazilian title in history. Before that, next Saturday (29), it will play the Conmebol Libertadores final against Palmeiras, in Lima (PER), and could become the first Brazilian club to win the continental competition four times.

The game

With a mixed team, Flamengo started the match controlling possession and trying to move into the attacking half by exchanging passes. When they lost possession, the red-and-black team pushed up the field to pressure Atlético in their own half. 

Looking to attack, Flamengo continued to circulate the ball to create space in Atlético-MG's defense. The first big chance came in the 24th minute. Luiz Araújo delivered a perfect cross for Samuel Lino to head the ball against the post. The ball remained loose in the area, and Junior Alonso cleared it for a corner. After the corner kick, Samuel Lino once again won the header and aimed towards the corner, forcing a great save from Everson, who deflected it with his knee.

In one of their few forays into attack, Atlético-MG opened the scoring in Belo Horizonte. Dudu made a good play down the left, entered the area and crossed for Bernard to finish into the goal: 1-0. Flamengo didn't let the blow affect them and almost equalized immediately afterwards. Carrascal found Ayrton Lucas alone in the area and the full-back shot first-time. The ball went just wide.

Another good chance was created in the 39th minute with Samuel Lino, who advanced down the left and placed a shot towards the corner. Everson stretched out and sent it out for a corner. Following that, Luiz Araújo took a corner kick into the box, the ball passed through the opposing defense and fell to Léo Pereira, who sent it over the goal.

The last opportunity created in the first half came from Wallace Yan's feet. The striker received the ball in the area, turned, and shot just wide of Everson's right post. Despite being behind on the scoreboard, Flamengo was far superior and could even have been winning the game.

Returning for the second half, coach Filipe Luís brought on Bruno Henrique in place of Wallace Yan. The Flamengo team continued to dominate the game and pressure Atlético. Before the 10-minute mark, Jorginho and Arrascaeta also came on for Evertton Araujo and Carrascal, respectively.

At 13 minutes, Pulgar delivered a perfect cross for Samuel Lino to head towards the corner. Everson, once again, saved the Minas Gerais team with an excellent save. Later in the game, Cebolinha and Plata entered the field as the last two substitutions for the Flamengo team. 

In the final stretch, Flamengo pushed forward to try and at least tie the game, but the opposing defense was well-organized and prevented the Flamengo team's plays. In the 43rd minute, Léo Pereira crossed into the box and Plata headed the ball against the post. Another great chance created. 

Flamengo showed courage, and after much persistence, they equalized in stoppage time! Danilo delivered a perfect cross and Bruno Henrique headed it into the back of the net: 1-1. Final score at Arena MRV. The result ended up being good for Flamengo, since Palmeiras lost their game. With this, Filipe Luís' team opened up a five-point lead at the top of the league and could be crowned champions as early as the next round.
